Santiago 3 - The central food market

It was Sunday and we were hungry…

We went to the central food market of Santiago. A very interesting experience. The first part is only meat and fish. It is enormous and Sundays are the busiest day. Many people go there to shop for the whole family and we saw people living with bags and bags and bags of meat, fish and vegetables. They have big families here.

The second part is only vegetables and other groceries like oil, soap, clothes, etc, etc. There was not the thing you could not find here. The tradition is to go here, shop and eat sea food. There is an area of seafood restaurants in an old building and the food is amazing. We had very good seafood there and prices were ridiculously low. All the food in the market are directly from the country side. It is not the food you would see in the supermarkets as the tomatoes are not all red and the lemons are not all yellow. The tase is more or less the same and the prices are amazing. The pictures say more than I can.
