So after leaving Santiago my travelling went north to a city called San Pedro de Atacama, where dessert meets salt flats. Here i spend 3 days to get used to the change in elevation; 3500 meters.
The Atacama dessert is known for its icy cold during the night and the amazing heat during the day. I arrived on an overnight bus at 1900 in the evening and lodged myself into a cheap hostel, with no hot water and only electricity during the evening. The morning showers was an experience, and quite a wake-up call, due to the minus 10 degrees outside.
The first day I spend touring the surrounding areas on bike and the most interesting was the Inca ruins of the old city of Pareta, where messages between the Inca cities changed hands.
The second day I booked a 3 day trip to the Bolivian dessert and the salt flats of Uyuni and by night I went on a tourist excursion to the amazing Valley of Death where absolutely nothing lives and where rock formations are truly of another world. In the evening we went to the Moon Valley to see the sunset. This was truly amazing as the colors kept changing with the setting of the sun.
